About Us Who we are? Prepare 2 Survive is a specialty retailer of outdoor survival and emergency preparedness products. Our aim is to provide a range of innovative products that enable customers to take positive action in an emergency improving their chances of survival. Our market includes outdoor adventurers, 4wd enthusiasts, and people who are at risk from periodic natural disasters. The goal of this business is to be the pre-eminent supplier of emergency preparedness products in Australia. Our business philosophy is “If we won’t use it, we won’t sell it”. Prepare 2 Survive is a privately owned and operated Australian business formed in late 2001. Until now Australians did not have a site dedicated to bringing consumers the 'best' in outdoor survival and emergency preparedness products. Prepare 2 Survive recently received wide recognition winning the 2002 MYOB Groundbreakers for the best new business concept. Groundbreakers is run by MYOB, developers of the highly acclaimed accountancy software by the same name, and is a competition to encourage start-up and emerging companies. Criteria for winning included the originality of the business idea, the structure of the business plan, the passion of the owner and the chances for success. Who are our customers? Our customers include:
Why a business such as this? In the last three decades, close to three million people have died from natural disasters around the world, and the number of injured, homeless and affected people has been countless. While loss of life from natural disasters in Australia is relatively low, the annual cost to the Australian economy is estimated to be around AU$1 billion. Events such as the Thredbo landslide, the Newcastle earthquake, the Ash Wednesday bushfires, the Brisbane floods and Darwin's Cyclone Tracy remind us that Australia is not immune to natural disasters. According to Emergency Management Australia in 2001 approximately 900,000 Australians were affected by a natural disaster. In February 2002 100,000 homes and businesses were left without power in the aftermath of the Sydney storms. Disasters today are not only limited to natural ones. Economic disasters such as the failure of Ansett or man-made disasters such as the events of September 11 can and do impact upon us as individuals. In the event of a major disaster it may be days or even weeks before help can arrive and in a national disaster supplies may quickly run out. Emergencies are also not only limited to communities; bushwalkers, outback adventurers, and 4WD enthusiasts can find themselves in difficulty and in need of assistance and/or rescue. According to the Queensland Police approximately 100 land based search and rescue operations are carried out each year in the State and it is often hours or days before the rescue is effected and in some cases the people are never found. There is also a high cost to these rescue efforts with a helicopter costing around $3,500 per hour. International visitors please note all prices include the Australian Goods & Services Tax (GST) of 10%. This will automatically be deducted from any international orders at the checkout.
